Sherco

Malcolm Rathmell Sport are the Sole UK Importers for Sherco Motorcycles. They have imported the bike, which was formerly Bultaco since 1999. In 2000 the bike was known as Sherco by Bultaco and from 2001 it has been trading solely under the Sherco name. The Bultaco name, which is synonymous with trials success during the '70s, was bought by the Sherco founder, Mr Marc Tessier.

In 2004 Sherco started producing 450i Enduro bikes. This was one of the first manufactures to go with fuel injection, instead of the usual carburettor option. In 2005 Sherco then produced the 450i Supermotard bike, then in 2006 made the 510i in both models.

In 2008 Sherco launched there all new engine, the 250i DOHC which set new standards due to it's great compact size and great power output and reliability, producing great results in it's first year around the World with it's rider Graham Jarvis finishing on the podium on many occasions in the extreme enduro rounds.

In 2010 Sherco added another model to the Enduro range and this is the new 300i, which is also using the smaller DOHC engine.

2013 Sherco Enduro

Designed for Enduro by Enduro riders

The 2012 Sherco 250 and 300 Enduro models have dominated the tests conducted by the specialized publications. The bikes were directly derived from the machine that was piloted by Fabien Planet in the 2012 World Championship. The 2013 models have made significant progress in the terms of engine performance while continuing to optimize the renowned qualities of the “made in Nimes” chassis. The bike handles like a thoroughbred in racing conditions, but is also easy and comfortable to ride at a leisurely pace. The 2013 Sherco is still the reference mark in the medium displacement category.

Engine: 300 "long stroke" design

Already considered by many of the members of the motorcycle press to be the best 2012 enduro engine, the character of the Sherco 300 engine is changing very significantly this year with the adoption of the “long stroke” design. The “long stroke” design is very suitable for enduro use, it is characterized by a larger reinforced crankcase. It also has a longer stroke but is able to reach high revs. The 300 has a completely redesigned block, a new crankshaft, new cylinder, new cylinder head with reworked ports, new camshaft, the gearbox ratios have been optimized and the clutch has been lightened. The exhaust has also been redesigned, the injection settings have been changed to decrease the engine braking.

The 250 motor is also changing. Most of the work is focused on the cylinder head. It has been reworked to gain maximum power and still be able to reach high revs. The clutch bell has been lightened.

Chassis: reinforced semi-perimeter

Sherco enduro motorcycles are specifically tailored to the practice of enduro racing. The use of a semi-perimeter chrome molybdenum frame, is a perfect compromise in order to meet the demands imposed upon it by the variety of terrain that is encountered during an Enduro season. The individual frame sections vary depending upon the forces that will be applied to them. This results in a high lateral stiffness that is optimized in 2013 by double reinforcing the front section and adding additional reinforcement to the shock absorber mount. The steering precision and turning angle have been greatly improved. The use of Cr Mo enhances the ability of the frame to absorb rigorous shocks and keep the rider comfortable, while maintaining a neutral behavior, which is critical during a long enduro race. The 2013 Sherco wins again by providing excellent control while maintaining the qualities of the front end that has made its reputation. The handling and maneuverability have also been improved with a much reduced turning radius. Sherco has performed a lot of work this year to enable the bike to turn tighter, a paramount requirement in modern enduro racing (the fuel tank and the radiator had to be redesigned to provide clearance with the fork tubes). The internal settings of the 48mm WP forks were revised for 2013 and the result  is increased comfort on small bumps and better steering precision.

Top of the line components

The components that the Sherco engineers have chosen to use on the enduro models are from the most prestigious names in the industry. The suspension units are a result of the development work carried out as a joint venture with Sherco and WP. They are designed to comfortably absorb small shocks as well as the extreme jolts that are often times encountered in modern enduro racing. The forks are installed in fully machined triple trees that are made by Neken that are adjustable to fit the ergonomics of the individual rider. The front brake and clutch controls are entrusted to Brembo. The bikes are equipped with new handguards and a new non metallic skidplate.

250: The top of the class

The 2102 Sherco 250 was considered to be an excellent machine and consistently won rave reviews from the press. In 2013, it forges ahead with a reinforced frame and it is more powerful and handles even better than before. An outstanding motorcycle that is directly derived from the factory machine that Fabien Planet has been riding in the World Enduro Championship.

300: The perfect compromise

Forerunners; the Nîmes technicians were the first to develop a 300cc 4-stroke Enduro engine. A displacement that is now recognized to be the ideal size for the practice of modern enduro racing. Other manufacturers now offer intermediate displacements, however Sherco is one step ahead of the pack with the new 2013 “long stroke” engine which is even better for the application.

450: Effective and playful!

Sherco first entered into the Enduro market 9 years ago in the 450 displacement class. It was the first enduro model that was equipped with fuel injection, a system that has been steadily refined over the years. A motorcycle that has been perfectly developed and tested under the harsh conditions of the Dakar. The 450 is an excellent value in the displacement class and is extremely effective in enduro racing.

510: thrills!

The 500’s are reserved for lovers of horsepower. The Sherco engineers have mastered the fuel injection system, which gives the big motor outstanding power and smoothness. It is the ideal weapon for fans of big fast cars, it is a machine that has its own character and is effective in all circumstances.

WP fork:

The 48 mm diameter WP fork receives new internal adjustments that improve comfort on small bumps. The 2013 fork also provides increased steering precision.

Brembo brakes:

This is the famous Brembo brake that the Sherco team has incorporated, it provides the power and feel that is perfect for enduro racing.

Optimized fuel injection

The Sherco technicians have modified the injection curve of the 300 to decrease the engine braking. The wiring harness has been updated and now includes new waterproof connectors.

300 "long stroke" Engine

Major updates on the 300 engine for 2013. The engine receives: a new crankshaft, a new cylinder, a new cylinder head and a new camshaft. The gearbox ratios have been optimized.

Semi-perimeter frame

In 2012, after extensive testing, Sherco adopted the semi-perimeter frame which is manufactured using chrome molybdenum steel. This is a design that was chosen for its perfect adaptation to the practice of modern enduro racing and casual riding. The individual frame sections vary depending upon the forces that will be applied to them. This results in a high lateral stiffness (for precise handling and directional stability) without increasing the longitudinal stiffness (for comfort and smooth behavior at the handlebars). In 2013, the semi-perimeter frame further evolves by double reinforcing the  front section and adding additional reinforcements at the shock absorber mount to provide more control in broken terrain.

2012 Sherco Enduro

SE2.5i/SE3.0i: A new generation!

The 250cc and 300cc Shercos have always been deemed excellent by the press.

The Se3.0i-R. The 2011 Sherco model was voted “best enduro bike” last year (all displacements combined) by a panel of French

Enduro specialists. Yet, the Nîmes engineers have not fallen asleep on their laurels. The 2012 machines have received a lot of work, the chassis has been completely redesigned and the engine has been greatly revamped.

Semi-perimeter frame

Sherco frames are famous for their excellent adaptation to the practice of enduro racing in all conditions. There is a big revolution in 2012, the enduro models are receiving a totally new, semi-perimeter frame made from chrome molybdenum. This new design was chosen after extensive testing in the enduro environment and proven to provide excellent performance in this discipline. The shape and thickness of the various frame components varies depending upon the constraints and loads applied to them. This results in high lateral stiffness (for more precise handling, better control in the corners) without increasing the longitudinal stiffness (providing excellent comfort and a neutral feeling in all circumstances). This new configuration allows a clearer focus on the rest of the components, the swing arm, the exhaust and the fuel tank have been redesigned to enhance the total feeling of the bike. The 2012 Sherco becomes sharper and more accurate, while keeping the tracking and feel of the front end that has made its reputation. With this new frame the components have been optimized by perfectly incorporating an 8-liter fuel tank (very useful in enduro racing and also in touring), and a larger air filter that allows more direct airflow into the engine intake. The routing of the wiring harnesses and the location of the fuel injection connectors (new and fully sealed) were very carefully thought out when designing the new frame. Sherco has leveraged its experience as a pioneer in the utilization of fuel injection on enduro motorcycles. Sherco has been producing enduro motorcycles equipped with fuel injection for 8 years. The 2012 Sherco is the result of a careful redesign which has produced an extremely compact machine with very natural ergonomics.

The new frame provides a machine that is more manageable and provides increased riding pleasure, it is also incredibly effective in

races where the rider is racing against the clock.

High-end equipment
The new frame is not the only good news for 2012, the new bike is equipped with new suspension units both front and rear. The new WP rear shock absorber is enhanced with new control links for a more progressive feel. The front fork is a new 48 mm diameter WP model that was developed in conjunction with the Sherco factory. The new triple clamps are made by Neken and are fully machined. The suspension units are fully adjustable in order to accommodate various rider weights and riding styles. The front suspension units are light and very rigid and provide better accuracy and excellent front end control. The suspension system has been developed to work perfectly with the new frame, with the aim being to provide outstanding control on large impacts and very bumpy sections while maintaining a great level of comfort on small bumps, conditions that are often met in a modern enduro. In addition to WP, the renowned Brembo brand makes its appearance on the 2012 Sherco. This has led to an improvement in the feeling of the clutch and brake systems and provides gains in braking power and gives them a more progressive feel. The body work is also new: lighter, more durable and more ergonomic. The finish is flawless and the rear fender has two lifting handles.... One more sign that Sherco is providing a very strong focus on the Enduro scene, Enduro bikes by Enduro riders!

An in depth re-examination of the engine

In 2011 the 250cc and 300cc motors were hailed for their performances. The 2012 models have been further enhanced with a new

cylinder head that improves the power at all speeds. The ignition mapping has been revised to compliment the engine updates, they have also received a new exhaust system that has been completely redesigned, it reduces the noise level of the engine at the same time causing the spent gasses to slow down allowing the engine to gain more power. It’s build quality is impeccable, it is TIG welded using stainless steel tubing.

The 300 piston is lighter and stronger, it was developed by a technology called "double bridge forging" which is used in Formula 1

racing. This is a new technique which increases the life of the engine in extreme conditions, while allowing high engine speeds

(up to 13,500 RPM). The clutch in the 300 has also been changed, with a new housing to account for the increase in power. The

slow speed power curve has been revised to provide a softer feel when running at slow speeds.
Already deemed the best enduro bike in 2011, the motor of the 300 Sherco has been greatly enhanced this year. Now residing in

a new modern chassis, it exacerbates the gap on its rivals in 2012.
